Running a compute cluster causes significant infrastructure costs (electricity, air conditioning and security) as well as maintenance costs for institutes.
It is the idea of Integrative Hosting to host such systems in the IT Center and to operate them together with the high-performance cluster (RWTH compute cluster - Linux). The resulting overhead for the IT Center is comparatively small due to economies of scale.
The Integrative Hosting service has been successfully used by several institutions for some time. More than 550 systems with more than 6,200 processor cores are currently operated.
In addition to operating the IT Center also takes care of the procurement of such systems.
